Registered Nurse (RN) - Utilization Review Travel Job in Kinston, North Carolina
We are seeking an experienced Utilization Review Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week on-site travel nursing assignment in Kinston, North Carolina. This acute care hospital position is ideal for a detail-oriented RN who excels in utilization management, medical necessity review, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Working closely with the care team, you will help evaluate admissions, level of care, continued stays, and care transitions while supporting timely authorizations and reimbursement processes. - Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,935 - $2,150
- Location: Kinston, North Carolina
- Setting: Acute hospital, on-site utilization review
- Start Date: 7/6/2026
- Duration: 13-week travel assignment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday
- Shifts Per Week: 5
- Shift Duration: 8-hour day shifts
- Hours Per Week: 40
- Weekend Requirement: None
- Call Requirement: None
- Orientation: 24 hours
- EMR: Epic
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Utilization Review RN experience
- Recent acute hospital nursing experience required
- Previous travel nurse experience required
- Experience with hospital-based utilization review and utilization management processes
- Experience using InterQual and MCG criteria to support admissions and level of care determinations
- Epic experience required
- Experience with payer portals, prior authorizations, and denials preferred
- Experience in denials management, including insurance denials, peer-to-peer review, and appeals, preferred
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred
- Active North Carolina RN license or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- ACM and/or CCM certification preferred
Responsibilities
- Perform concurrent utilization review to assess appropriateness of admission, level of care, and continued hospitalization
- Apply established clinical criteria to support medical necessity and appropriate patient status
- Collaborate with physicians, case management, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to resolve care progression and transition delays
- Communicate with third-party payers to provide clinical information supporting authorization and reimbursement
- Use payer portals to manage authorizations, denials, and related documentation
- Partner with providers to ensure documentation supports authorization of services
- Assist with care coordination across the continuum to promote timely and appropriate transitions of care
- Support denials prevention and participate in appeals or peer-to-peer processes as needed
